The work investigating atomic spectra is built upon the Photoelectric Effect simulation develop by PhET Interactive Simulations.

Learning Objectives

Students should be able to:

  1. Explain how wavelength and intensity of incoming light would impact the electrons that can be ejected from a metal
  2. Explain why different metals require different wavelengths of light to emit electrons

Instructional Materials

  • Screencast
  • Screencast assignment (this has only developed as a Google Form. If you wish to use this for a class, please contact the researchers to let you easily make a copy)

Further information about this simulation/assignment

This assignment and screencast was developed using the principles from the research project. There is no simulation assignment or pretest. These materials are designed to provide an introduction to the electronic transitions associated with atomic emission spectra.
