The work investigating acids and bases is built upon the Acid-Base Solutions simulation develop by PhET Interactive Simulations.

Learning Objectives

Students should be able to:

  1. Explain how the relative strength of an acid depends on the extent to which it ionizes in water.
  2. Explain how both acid strength and acid concentration contribute to the pH of a solution.
  3. Draw or interpret particulate level representations of strong/weak acids in water at various concentrations.
